The For Maui Donation Hat in Black from MACHUS Private Label
Details100% of the proceeds for this hat will go to the relief efforts in Lahaina, Maui.
Mālama 'Āina translates to "take care of the lan". This is something that we are taught growing up in Hawaii at a very young age. As the Office of Hawaiian Affairs states "Land is not a commodity to be explotied, it is a relative that is repected and cared for and, in turn, cares for us. Mālama 'āina expresses our kuleana (responsibility) to care for the land and to properly manage the resources and gifts it provides".
Inside the 6 bar logo, is a lauhala weave pattern. This is a style used for generations to weave baskets, hats, and more (since it's one of the strongest materials in Hawaii). In a metaphorical context, it stands for being stronger together. Additionally, it stands for the connections that are weaved throughout our lives.
The hat is sold in different increments for those who choose to donate more to the relief efforts. Here is a link blog post talking more about the situation on Maui
